About isnerd.net
I registered isnerd.net on the 28th of October, 2007. I’ve been blogging for two years, but this is my first really serious and focused site. It’s my intention to post tech articles here on the following subjects:
- Systems Administration
- IT/IS Management
- Technology choice (hardware, software etc)

About James Hicks
I began admining servers for a mobile computer support place on a casual basis in 1997 (Windows Servers - oh boy). In 1999 I was accidentally given the role of Systems Administrator (among other things) for a tiny ISP that used Linux. I was forced to learn a lot in a very short space of time, and to be honest my brain’s never really recovered its sanity.
Since then I’ve moved through more consulting, a start up, and a large local government authority as a Linux Systems Administrator and MSSQL DBA. In 2005 I was hired by Primus Telecom (a large Telco/ISP) as a Unix Systems administrator, where I learned many things, including Informix DataBase Administration and how a large organisation gets stuff done.
I was then poached by AusRegistry as a Unix/Network admin and L2/3 Support Team Leader. Ten months later I was promoted to Production Support Manager.
I currently live in Melbourne, Australia.
